What is a Blistering Disorder?
Fluid filled bubbles that appear on the skin are called ‘blisters’. For the vast majority of patients these arise spontaneously following a trauma to the skin or sunburn and will settle themselves with gentle homecare and barrier creams and/or dressings.
Symptoms of Blistering Disorders
For some patients, blisters can appear on the skin because of an underlying condition which might include:
drug/medication allergy
A visible or palpable bump under the skin.
A noticeable lump or swelling
Pain or discomfort
Infections
Pain may occur if the cyst is pressing on nearby structures or becomes infected.
Gluten intolerance
The area around the cyst might become red and warm if there's an infection.

Treatment of Blistering Disorders
If you have developed stubborn and non-resolving blisters, our specialist consultant dermatologist can assess your skin, whilst taking a detailed history of events, to ensure the correct management plan is set in motion. This may include blood tests and/or a skin biopsy before any treatment can be started.
